Preparing for tick season with reliable diagnostics

Tick-borne diseases
Warmer months usually mean more time outdoors and thus also increased exposure to ticks. Ticks are small ecto-parasites found in both urban and rural environments, including woodlands, grass, open fields, and bushes. Ticks are typically most active from spring to autumn.1
Tick-borne diseases are increasing across Europe. Longer, warmer seasons are supporting higher tick activity and gradual expansion into new areas.2
Ticks need blood to survive and during feeding, they may transmit pathogens through their bite. Infected ticks may transmit pathogens causing: tick-borne encephalitis (TBE), Lyme borreliosis (LB), and Lyme neuroborreliosis (LNB).
How tick-borne diseases are transmitted?
Ticks themselves do not cause a disease. However, if a tick is infected with a virus or bacterium, it can transmit pathogens through its bite.3 Preventive measures, such as wearing protective clothing and removing ticks promptly, can help reduce the risk of infection.
Supporting diagnostics of tick-borne infections
Tick-borne infections can present with a wide range of symptoms and may be challenging to diagnose without appropriate laboratory testing. Early and reliable diagnostics matter as symptoms can be non-specific and variable, making clinical diagnosis challenging. Accurate point-of-care testing (POCT) supports fast clinical decision-making and appropriate patient management.
Aidian offers a comprehensive selection of diagnostic tests for detecting Lyme borreliosis, neuroborreliosis, and TBE. Our portfolio includes:
