World Diabetes Day: driving awareness and action
Diabetes is one of the fastest-growing health challenges of our time
November 14th marks World Diabetes Day – a global initiative aimed at raising awareness about diabetes. Diabetes is among the fastest-growing health emergencies of the 21st century, affecting millions worldwide.1
In 2024, an estimated 589 million adults aged 20–79 were living with diabetes worldwide, representing 11.1% of the world’s population in this age group (1 in 9). By 2050 this number is projected to rise to 853 million.1 This increase can lead to higher rates of diabetes-related complications, increased pressure on healthcare systems, and substantial economic burdens due to rising healthcare costs and productivity losses.
Alarmingly, 43% of people with diabetes remain undiagnosed, predominantly type 2 diabetes. This highlights the urgent need to strengthen early detection efforts. 1
Early detection and effective management are key to reducing complications
Detecting diabetes early and initiating treatment promptly are essential steps in managing the disease and preventing complications. 1
At Aidian, we are dedicated to improving diabetes management through our point-of-care testing (POCT) solutions. We want to highlight the impact of diabetes and the importance of early detection and effective management.

Glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) test helps to monitor long-term blood glucose control in diabetic patients, and it also supports the identification of people at risk of developing diabetes. Point-of-care HbA1c testing has been shown to enhance diabetes management, increase patient’s commitment to treatment and improve patient satisfaction. These are leading to improved glycaemic control and reduced risk of costly and harmful comorbidities.2-4
Regular check-ups of average blood sugar levels are crucial to detect prediabetes or diabetes early. Learn more about our QuikRead go HbA1c test.
Let’s spread awareness and support those affected by diabetes.
