Nurses are playing a crucial role in diabetes management
The number of people living with diabetes is increasing worldwide. In 2019 approximately 463 million adults were living with diabetes and the number is estimated to increase to 700 million by 2045. Often, the nurses are the first and some cases only healthcare professionals that a person meets.
Diabetes is a life-long and challenging condition. Diabetics need psychological support and self-management training for lifestyle changes and proper diabetes management. The nurses play a crucial role not only in supporting and guiding people with diabetes but also in helping to tackle the risk factors of type 2 diabetes and enabling early diagnosis. Early diagnosis and proper management of diabetes lead to improved glycemic control and reduced risk of harmful and expensive complications.
14th of November we will celebrate World Diabetes Day 2020 with a theme “The Nurse and Diabetes”.
